Google said Gemini 2.0 is being rolled out to developers and trusted testers, with testing of Project Astra on prototype glasses among the near-term steps, and plans to embed the updated model in the Gemini app and other Google products.

The new model rests on a decade of in-house AI work and relies on custom hardware, including Trillium, Google’s sixth-generation TPUs, to power training and inference.

Gemini 2.0, introduced as our most capable model yet, is built with advances in multimodality, including native image and audio output, and native tool use, enabling us to build new AI agents that bring us closer to a universal assistant.

Deep Research, a feature in Gemini Advanced, uses advanced reasoning and long-context capabilities to research topics and compile reports.

Google said 2.0 would be available to developers and trusted testers today, with the Gemini 2.0 Flash experimental model accessible to all Gemini users and plans to expand to other products early next year. Sundar Pichai framed the move as the next era for the technology, saying, “I can’t wait to see what this next era brings.”

Daily Brief is rolling out to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States, providing a proactive digest that prioritizes next steps.

Gemini Omni Flash is available today through the Gemini app, Google Flow and YouTube Shorts, with APIs for developers and enterprise customers to follow in the coming weeks.

In the broader ecosystem, information agents in Search are rolling out to work in the background 24/7, enabling personalized assistance and actions on user questions.

The Gemini app has grown to roughly 900 million monthly users across 230 countries and more than 70 languages, underscoring the scale of Google’s AI initiatives.
