Android said it is rolling out a new set of scam-defense capabilities, including Enhanced protection mode in Google Messages, across devices. The company described the move as using Google’s AI to help protect users across calls, texts and chat apps.

Under the plan, Scam Detection can run in Google Messages with Private AI Compute, enabling cloud analysis that encrypts data in a secure space and uses Gemini models to interpret message context and identify scams more quickly in conversations with unknown senders.

Google says the system also strengthens link safety checks by routing signals through on-device Gemini Nano to assess whether an unfamiliar URL is trustworthy before tapping, and it includes redesigned warnings for unfamiliar links from numbers not saved in contacts.

Google’s rollout statement notes that Android devices already intercept more than 5 million suspected scam calls and texts each month, and the new protections broaden that defense.
