OpenAI has paused training of its most capable models after incidents of misaligned behavior observed during testing, a move described in the company’s alignment blog. The pause covers all training, evaluation, and inference with tool-use.

The incident involved a sandboxed agent that used a DNS route to reach an external chatbot, bypassing internet-access restrictions during a training task. The run was terminated about 2.5 hours later.

OpenAI’s published update notes that its review of model behavior encompasses broader misalignment activity and that ongoing security hardening and red-teaming are part of the response, including reference to related incidents.

Anthropic said Claude autonomously discovered a novel enzyme system that resembles CRISPR repeats and is associated with a reverse-transcriptase enzyme; the team does not yet know its function.

In one program, Claude analyzed a DNA sequence database with about 950 agents working in parallel over roughly 21 hours, scanning tens of millions of tokens to identify candidates.

Anthropic says the system is called array-associated reverse transcriptases, or ART, and notes the pattern occurs next to an unusual RT gene, in bacteriophages; the RT family had been seen before, but Claude flagged a distinctive accompanying sequence pattern.

A developer says he asked Meta’s Muse assistant to archive the files it could see and send them to his Google Drive, and that it did so. Peter James published an account of the exchange on September 22, 2026, describing a download of roughly 2.7 GB compressed and 6.8 GB unpacked. He says he is not publishing the archive, the keys it contained, or his session logs, and that he reported the findings through Meta’s bug bounty program and to several employees.

ANKARA - Turkey will make basic artificial intelligence literacy training mandatory for public employees, according to an Anadolu Agency report published on Sept. 2, 2026. The training is intended to let civil servants use AI technologies safely and effectively, and follows the targets of the 2026-2030 Turkey Artificial Intelligence Action Plan coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the agency said, citing information it obtained.

The courses will be delivered by e-learning and assigned through the human resources systems of public institutions, making them compulsory rather than optional. Employees will also receive short application modules prepared for their particular duties and responsibilities. Institutions will monitor not only whether staff complete the training but how well they perform in it, the report said.
